DAD'S NEWSLETTER

April 2004 (Dress and work codes)

Dear Dads,

With summer coming, this newsletter has two key points for your preteen and teenage children. Our daughters need to dress modestly and our sons need to be working appropriately.

1) Key point for dads with daughters:
We need to do all we can to encourage and require our daughters to dress modestly.

Important Bible verse:
I Timothy 2:9 "· I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly·"

The clothes our daughters wear will go a long way toward determining their reputation, affecting how they see themselves, and attracting the type of male they will end up marrying.

2) Key point for dads with sons:
We need to make sure our sons learn the value of working and the importance of earning their own money.

Important Bible verse:
Lamentations 3:27 "It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young."

Summer jobs will, of course, range from full to part time depending on your son's age.

When a paying job might not be available, especially to those who are under sixteen, I would like to suggest finding a friend who will let your son help at his/her workplace without being paid; hopefully your son would do enough free work to make up for the time it would take to teach him various tasks and skills.

It is certainly good for our daughters to work also, but this may entail helping more at home or babysitting. I personally would minimize having sons baby sit due to the harm that would occur if even false accusations of child molesting ever happened.

Dads, between all the sensual issues and possibilities of being spoiled in this day and age, we need to be very diligent in seeing that our children grow up with Biblical behaviors, attitudes, and values.

Your brother in Christ,
Al Wylie
