Don't Be Presumptuous

April, 2005

Dear Dads,

You are receiving this newsletter from an expert in being presumptuous. Arrrggghhhhh, how I cringe when I remember some of the self centered things I have done in the past.

Definition of presumptuous: taking too much for granted; too bold or forward.

Key point for dads:

We need to teach our kids to not be presumptuous- that they are not the center of the universe and that every person in the world is not here to do their bidding.

Important Bible verse:

Philippians 2:3
"Do nothing from selfishness .. but with humility..
let each of you regard one another as more important
than himself"

We need to teach our kids:

- To not expect someone to do something for them.
- To not assume they can take or use other peoples' possessions.
- To not take parents for granted.
- To be appreciative whenever people are helpful in any way.

This is embarrassing but I didn't really grasp that the world does not revolve around me until just the last few years. Please keep your children from offending as many people as I have over the years.

Also, besides your kids having a good reputation, you don't want them to have to go through the pruning from God that I needed.

Your brother in Christ,

Al Wylie
