February 2004 (Sexual Purity)

Dear Dads,

Knowing all the sexual issues and problems that I was exposed to even when growing up in the 50's, with God's help I have tried my best to protect and teach our own children from an early age.

When our son was about four years old, I taught him how Potiphar's wife had tried to kiss Joseph and how he ran away from her. (We know from Genesis 39 that it was a bit more than a kiss, but that seemed enough for someone that age.)

I want to encourage you to not be embarrassed and to not procrastinate, but to do all you can to teach your children God's principles regarding sex. This for sure would include telling preschoolers about no touching of private parts and middle schoolers about no sexual involvement until marriage.

Key point for dads:

Dads need to make sure their children know that they are accountable to God, and that it is His will for them to remain sexually pure until marriage.

Our children need to know that God sees them even when no one else is around.

Important Bible verse:

I Thessalonians 4:3 "It is God's will that you should · avoid sexual immorality"

One last point is that we had better be living appropriately ourselves. We can't expect our kids to just go by our words.
