DAD'S NEWSLETTER

June, 2003

As we celebrate Father's Day this month, please make sure you are in your proper, God given role as the spiritual head of your family.

Your being the spiritual leader of the family does not depend on your spiritual maturity, it depends on your leading as the Lord intends. This is particularly important for dads that are new Christians, or have more spiritually mature wives, or have strong willed wives.

Regardless of your wife's abilities, which should not be stifled, you can still make sure your family is following the Lord, you can still make sure your kids are taught the Bible at home, and you can still make sure your wife is growing spiritually, etc.

The key point here for dads is:

God has appointed you to be the spiritual leader of your family. Make sure you are functioning as He intends.

An important Bible verse for this is:

Ephesians 5:23 "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church"

Please do not misuse this Ephesians verse, as many husbands have done in lording it over their wives, but be a servant-leader like Jesus was.

Also, please note that this is not about superiority of one sex over another, but about God assigning roles to establish all things being done properly and orderly.

Your brother in Christ,

Al Wylie
