Dear Dads,

There is a neat missionary in Honduras who has ten kids. Here is some great advice he wants to share about protecting your children from the Internet.

Please be very diligent to implement this if you have not already done so.

I thought it might be a good idea to do a Dad’s Newsletter on how to help our children avoid the trap of sin on the Internet. The rules we have for our family go like this:

Internet/Computer Policy

1. No doing chat rooms or message boards:

a. Danger from predators

i. Guard your personal information

ii. Never believe a stranger. There are predators posing

as someone else.

b. Wasting too much time in “virtual” vs. actual relationships

c. Avoid becoming a computer couch potato.

2. Computer only in public areas

a. Never in rooms where doors can be closed / locked.

b. Always where people can pass behind the computer. Never where one’s back is against the wall. One should always have the screen where it can be publicly viewed.

3. Set a time limit on non-academic computer time.

4. No erasing history

5. Always use an internet filter (We use Cybersitter for our computer)

6. Never visit inappropriate sites: Gambling, Pornography, etc.

A verse I like to use with my children is:

Proverbs 4:26

“Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.” (NIV)

If we set rules in our homes for Internet use, we make level paths for our feet so we don’t fall into sin.

In Christ,
